Love Note XO
A Love Note From Petite Surf Owner, Jaimie Kelley Choi
I'm addicted to inspiration. I have to get my creative fix, or frankly, I'm not very fun to be around. I’m a writer, musician, and yogi turned hairdresser who was drawn to the beauty industry for its hands-on creative environment and service to clients. As someone who has spent the last dozen years studying health, wellness, and mindfulness, I could not help but see the connection between the mind and body as it relates to beauty.
I live in my hometown of Virginia Beach, with my husband of 18 years and our three kids. We’ve lived in bigger cities, and love to travel, but Virginia Beach is our home base, jet noise and all. This little tourist town influences everything from our accent (think surfer meets the south) to our fitness rituals (skateboarding, surfing, and riding bikes to 7-11) to our love of casual beauty. Most of my wardrobe choices are met with, “can I wear flip flops with this?”
Petite Surf started as a holistic beauty and wellness boutique tied to my salon services as an independent stylist. It was a way for me to offer my clients online access to my professional product recommendations like organic skincare, plant-based hair care, and clean makeup products.
But the more I talked with my salon clients about this or that amazing product, the more I realized that feeling good is the foundation of looking good. Yes, a cute haircut and a color refresh can do wonders to uplift your day, but that high won’t last if you have low energy, loads of stress, a job you hate, a relationship that’s draining you, or eating habits that are causing you hair, skin, menstruation, or digestion problems. As you can imagine, hairdressers hear it all…
I kept imagining my clients outside of the salon, in their everyday lives, and wanting to help them better understand the link between inner and outer beauty. I wanted to expand the shop beyond the surface and share the holistic lifestyle that has truly transformed my life from one filled with stress, indecision, anxiety, and depression to one that is full of contentment, strength, calm, and delight.
Our motto here is Holistic Beauty with an Ocean View because I want to offer clients more than a makeover. I share my holistic lifestyle through the Raw Beauty Blog to share a deeper perspective on things like why I choose to work with plant-based products, or how diet affects your skin and hair.
Take a look around, and feel free to contact me with any questions. If you’re a local or plan to visit Virginia Beach, make an appointment for a haircut, color, or Balayage. We can chat about yoga, herbs, and my favorite clean beauty brands! And, maybe a little about the Real Housewives, because, hey, it’s still a salon…
